COMMUNITY RESOURCES

As a trusted 501c3 non-profit organization, Artists First has connected hundreds of our most vulnerable community members to a sense of belonging, purpose, safety and empowerment through creative self-expression. A majority of those who utilize and depend on Artists First are marginalized individuals from varied backgrounds and have a cross-section of challenges including homelessness, community reintegration, mental health needs, poverty, substance use, exploitation and abuse. Our evidence based programs have met needs for those with disabilities, veterans reintegrating into society, youth who experience toxic stress and adults with memory loss. Artists First has been a safety net and imperative part of daily lives for our community members, many who do not have natural support systems and or resources.

The Need: Due to the (COVID-19) unexpected physical closure of the Artists First studio those who have depended on Artists First are at greater risk of being isolated and segregated with limited access to resources. Prior to the Stay at Home order, Artists First compiled and delivered needed resources and art materials to the artists most in need. Through this experience, the reality of isolation, lack of information and unmet needs for our most vulnerable artists became painfully evident. For those with limited income / assistance there is no means for them to “stock up” on food and needed supplies. Limited public transportation schedules make it even harder - for those that are able - to go to the store and to utilize other essential services.
