First.

Artists First is an inclusive, non-profit art studio empowering artists of all abilities. We believe in bringing art to the community as a means of integration, healing, support, and finding common ground.

The Artists First studio is now accepting artists into the studio!
On Hold Until Jan 2021

We appreciate everyone’s patience as we have navigated COVID-19. We have spent months preparing our physical location, updating policies and establishing protocols to ensure the utmost safety of all. All staff have undergone extensive safety training regarding COVID-19 and the studio is officially Missouri ArtSafe Certified.

Artists First is temporarily suspending "walk-ins".  We are requiring all artists to reserve a 2-hour time slot to come into the studio. You must reserve a spot
by calling us at (314) 781-4440 or emailing us at info@artistsfirststl.org

If you do not show for your reserved time slot or cancel less than 24 hours in advance, you will still be billed.

We respectfully ask that you take the time to read our new COVID-19 policies
and that you do not come into the studio if you are feeling unwell. Upon the first visit to the studio staff will familiarize artists to the new protocols including temperature screenings, mask requirements, personal belonging storage, sanitary practices, and safe social distancing measures.

The Artists First staff has been working hard to prepare the studio for your return and we can’t wait to see what we can safely create together!

Best Practice-

Art facilitators utilize a minimal touch philosophy, meaning facilitators only touch participants' artwork when it is necessitated by the needs of the individual artist. Facilitators are always present to assist artists, though their aim is to encourage artists to create independently in order to promote their own personal growth.

   Accessibility-

Artists First accepts all participants regardless of age, gender, ability, sexual orientation, religion, race or ethnicity. Our culture is one of inclusion, from program development to program implementation, intentionally targeting disenfranchised individuals and taking steps to ensure participation, including reduced fees and scholarships.
We are aware of, and proactive in, fostering equity, equality, and inclusiveness.

Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion-

Artists First’s mission and existence is based on the unflinching belief in the imperativeness of diversity in all forms; equity and inclusion for all. Artists First utilizes a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DEI) lens and an intersectionality viewpoint in hiring practices, development of policies, program development, and activities. We choose to frame cultural understanding and acceptance through the lens of humility, meaning we know we do not know it all – we actively listen, honestly reflect and constantly learn. Our commitment is more than words it is at the heart of all that we do.

Artists First is honored to be the winner of the 2019 Inclusion Award from

the Missouri Governor's Council on Disability!

The Inclusion Award and one Honorable Mention are presented annually to recognize private and public employers, individuals, and organizations that have successfully included people with disabilities in education, employment, housing, leisure activities, and website accessibility. Individuals are also encouraged to nominate state and local government divisions or employees they truly feel excel in inclusive practices.
