Ricky Douglas

Ricky has been involved with the Artists First for several years. He works with charcoal, pencil, colored pencil, paint pens, watercolor and acrylic and he also has worked with ceramics. Ricky’s first painting at Artists First called “Red Headed Girl” won 2nd place in a statewide contest of paintings by adults with disabilities.

During Ricky’s time out of the studio he’s been drawing every day. Without the studio, he’s set up a special place in his living room where he can draw and he’s been waking up early just to get started on his drawing projects.

At home, he’s been working with his usual subjects as well as trying to experiment with new things. He’s spent more time mastering clouds and drawing views of the sky from earths point of view as opposed to his usual drawings of space.

He’s always enjoyed drawing people and working on his shading skills, and is now expanding this focus to include horses, dogs, and cats. He’s in the early phases of experimenting with houses, plants, aliens, and “scary monsters”.

His biggest inspiration at home has been several new books on natural landscape and geography of the Rocky Mountains. We look forward to seeing how Ricky brings these new subjects back to the studio and eagerly awaiting to see what’s next!
